One of the perks of A's airline occupation is free flying. Normally, this isn't quite as good as it sounds ... standby flying requires much flexibility, small bags, and a good attitude. I can't say that I've had any extra of these requirements as a mom. We are able to fly frequently, but this normally involves mounds of forethought and vacation days from work.
But not this weekend. When my dear friend N asked JP and I to come visit her in DC, we said yes! JP and I hopped on a plane on Saturday morning, arrived in DC early Saturday afternoon, and left back for MN on Sunday morning. With one small carry on, an iPad for entertainment, and a purse full of special airport snacks, we were set! Flying with JP was so easy. JP and I often don't get much "Mommy and me" time these days ... so this was just what we needed! He's such a good little traveller.
N and I took the boys out for ice cream ... and then we let them burn off their energy at a fun park. Within minutes, JP and EJ were talking and playing together. Cute little Thatcher tagged along and tried to keep up with the bigger boys. N and I were actually able to carry on conversation as we watched these little ones run.
And boys they were ... chasing squirrels, kicking dirt, finding rocks. At one point I overheard JP telling EJ, "And my daddy's airport is bigger than yours" ... such a boy thing, right? EJ and Thatcher were so good at sharing all of their special toys with JP.
Although I'd give anything to live next door to one of my very best friends, I'll take the free flights for now!
